Lactation Education for Healthcare Professionals
Dear Participant:
I am a post-grad from the College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona
State University.
I am inviting you to participate in an evidence-based educational program to
determine if a lactation education program will improve knowledge, attitudes,
and confidence among current and future healthcare providers. Prior research has
demonstrated that lactation education programs offered to medical residents has
improved knowledge, attitudes, and confidence when caring for the mother/baby
dyad. Participating in this study will involve watching webcasts featuring
International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) and healthcare
professionals who are active in field of breastfeeding medicine. This
educational program consists of six one-hour webcasts. You will be asked to
complete a questionnaire before and after the completion of each webcast. You
will be able to select the order in which you watch the webcasts. Watching one
webcast and taking the pre and post survey does not obligate you to watch all
six webcasts.
Your participation in the evaluation of the program is voluntary. If you choose not to participate or to
withdraw from the program at any time, there will be no penalty. Participating in this study will not
affect your standing at the University, nor will it have any impact on career. You must be either a student in a graduate
healthcare program or a practicing medical provider (nurse practitioner, doctor, or physician’s assistant). You must also be 19 years of age or older
to participate in this program.
Responses to questionnaires will be used
to evaluate the effectiveness of the lactation education program. There are no known risks associated
with participating in this educational program.
It should take you no more than 20 minutes to fill out the pre/post
questionnaire.
Prior to the start of the pre-test, you
will be asked to generate a code consisting of the first and middle initial of
your mother’s name and the last four digits of your phone number. This code will be used to link your
pre-test and post-test answers.
Your responses to the questionnaires will
be anonymous and will be identified only by number that will not be connected to
your name or other personal identifying information. The results of this study
may be used in reports, presentations, or publications but your name will not be
known or used.
If you have any questions concerning this
educational program, please contact me at 480-300-4559 or

Entering this website (http://www.lactationeducationforhealthcareproviders.com),
